(396) March 26, 2011: OUR GIVEN PLACE

OUR GIVEN PLACE

This clear eyed island night of stars

Reduces me to something slight,

And even this great earth of ours

With so much power, so much might,

A place of true magnificence,

Somehow escapes significance,

    Except as God redeems our race

    By offering His gift of grace

    And through His Son, our given place.

There’s so much space between the stars,

I seem so small, I seem so slight,

And even spinning orbs like ours,

Displaying unimagined might

Of truly grand magnificence,

Are still beyond significance.

    Except as God redeems our race

    By offering His gift of grace

    And through His Son, our given place.

Our world is lost among the stars,

And we upon its surface slight;

Its greatness more than that of ours,

In ordered magnitudes of might;

And yet it’s bright magnificence

Attains no real significance.

    Except as God redeems our race

    By offering His gift of grace

    And through His Son, our given place.
