TALK ON THE BEACH

I took the liberty to overhear

The things you said the other night

When you and surfer dude went out

Alone along the beach to talk.

The things you said the other night

Were all the things you always said

You'd never say, "For one french bread."

When you and surfer dude went out,

The night all bright with flaming heat,

Went sour, dim and bittersweet.

Alone along the beach to talk,

You gave away the keyless prize,

It's all unlocked inside your eyes.

JOURNAL: Mimi & her Mom went up see Adin's Special Day presentation.  I took a 2-hour walk up the beach to Carlsbad and back.  Picked up cheese & crackers at Just Peachy.  After lunch we did a bit of shopping for things on Rashawna's list.  Then we got haircuts.  I wanted an easy haircut that I wouldn't have to use any gel on.  Allie the hairstylist, with encouragement from Mimi, took out the #4 clippers and buzzed the sides and back, leaving it a little more than a finger-width on top.  It's short, but I think it'll work.  Back to Mark & Kit's.  Goodbyes all around.  Traffic was heavy on the 78 so we pulled off to Barnes & Noble to pick up a Battle For The Mind by Joyce Meyer for Rashawna and then on to Red Lobster for dinner.  Home at nine.  Mimi's sick with my bug.  Watched "Working Girl" starring Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford.

THE CHOCOLATE ARMY MEN

You silence the chocolate army men,

Believing they know the peace time drill ,

Convinced they'll mark the borders right,

Attributing laughter and noise to joy.

Believing they know the peace time drill,

You rest at night in naked bliss,

Anamolies of sound dismiss,

Convinced they'll mark the borders right,

And hold at bay the nasty things,

You let the night untie its strings,

Attributing laughter and noise to joy,

You smile to hear their poker game,

And learn to call them each by name.

Journal:  Lazy day around the house and around town.  Thought my massage was today.  Turns out it was yesterday and I missed it.  I had really been looking forward to it.  Rescheduled for next Tuesday.  Watched "The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo" with Mimi tonight.  She made me fast forward through the sadistic scenes.

(109) June 12, 2010: Invented Games

INVENTED GAMES

Invented games to pass the time,

Described in semicircle rites,

Some tricky hooks stay lured for years,

The best hang on for centuries.

Described in semicircle rites,

The amphitheatric chanting dirge,

Conscripts the mind and feeds the urge.

Some tricky hooks stay lured for years

Beyond the memory, back to what

The dead men heard in the hermit’s hut.

The best hang on for centuries

Enshrined in books and citadels,

Their fame proclaimed by steeple bells.
